The game is great fun so far and if it continues like that is well worth the money :-).. Awesome game, very intuitive mechanics and I really like the theme and look. I am terrible and still got in done in 6 hours, if you're good at platformers you'll smash it in <3 and for $12.99 thats not a great deal, but if its on sale grab it fo' sho'! If you're REALLY good its possible you could get it done in <2 and get a refund :). Platforming + Ikaruga = On Rusty Trails. Great platform game with tight controls, great visuals/artwork and sound/music.You're a little dude with magnetic shoes; so can walk up walls and on the ceiling except when you want to jump of course. It becomes a game of toggle your colour (blue or red) depending on the environment which leads to some very rewarding quick thinking jumps and platforming.Over 100 short levels in total, split between 7 chapters. Achievements are awarded for not using the mid level checkpoints and for not dying during a level. The shortness of the levels makes this more than possible but does require some steady, calm nerves and perseverance.I only have two gripes with the game. The first is that checkpoints are activated automatically by passing through them. A blessing if you're not bothered about achievements but a real pain when you're trying to avoid them (for the achievement) and accidentally activate one after a really tricky bit of the level. I guess this a common thing with platformers so not a deal breaker by any means. My second gripe is that the screen doesn't show you necessary detail in the last chapter until it's too late. So, for example, there may be moving hazards on the ceiling but you only find out about it after you've jumped and it becomes a bit of a guessing game. This kind of 'difficulty' doesn't test skill but rather your self restraint to not chuck your controller through your screen and, since your character is really small and there is plenty of real estate on the screen, it would've been more than possible to show the necessary part of the level so you can plan accordingly. On the whole, a fantastic, rewarding platform game and definitely worth a play.. I'm going to give a great review to a game I got a refund on. I just can't deal with the stress of any more Super Meat Boy-style quick-reaction platformers, and didn't realise it was in that vein when I bought it. BUT, if you're in market for more of that type of punishment, this is brilliant! Loads of character, a great world and overriding (but unintrusive) narrative, in which the color-switching mechanic reveals a racist and prejudiced society. Gameplay is very fluid and fair, controls are excellent. I really hope more people notice this.. I'm a big fan of hard platformers and this one ranks amongst the top. It's clear that a lot of time and effort went into this game. The graphics, audio, level design and game mechanics seem to be carefully thoughtout and the end result is a gem of an indie game. Here's my let's play:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IoICGMt5tGE. Great game. I don't know why people are saying it's easy in some of the reviews, becuase it takes me like a bazillion tries for some levels. Or maybe I suck. Who knows.. On Rusty Trails is a competent, refreshing platform that I whole heartily recommend.I played this on blind faith in the developers after finishing Tiny and Big and loving it (another game of theirs). After taking a few minutes to get used to the platforming style the flow of the gameplay felt very smooth. I would recommend not worrying about collecting tokens and 100%ing the game until you are finished a world then going back. This will maintain the smoothness. 100%ing does have its merits as in some levels the route completely changes for a more challenging experience. The game is fairly short and does not outstay its welcome. I would love to see some sort of sequel or even just a map editor for the community to go wild. I understand with a very small indie team that you have to stay inside your project scope and this does feel like a very well manage development but a map editor as paid DLC to fund development would be a great idea. The story and world was interesting and unique enough to be a nice wrapper to justify the gameplay and your actions. It made the whole experience rather whimsical.Music was great and strange, typical of Black Pants games. Sound effects were a bit hit and miss with some like the lasers and green blocks being flat out annoying.I guess any criticisms would be nit-picky. On the final boss fight I fell outside the map and couldn't finish the level. This was fixed with a simple restart. There's not much more to say about the game. It is a neat game in a neat little package and well worth your time. :)
